To mark the 150th anniversary of the birth of the first Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany, this event will examine the foundations of his foreign policy and its relevance today.
Through the Federal Republic’s alignment with the West, his commitment to European unification, and the transatlantic partnership, Konrad Adenauer set the course for democratic Germany’s foreign policy after 1945. Many of his fundamental decisions continue to shape German and European politics to this day. But what significance do they hold in a world marked by new geopolitical tensions, international crises, and security challenges?
Together with historian PD Dr. Bastian Matteo Scianna (University of Potsdam) and Dr. Christina Krause (Konrad Adenauer Foundation), we will discuss the historical context of Adenauer’s foreign policy decisions and their significance for current issues in German and European foreign and security policy.
