Play development by Magdalena Scharler and Jenny Helene Wübbe
Why is belligerence suddenly sexy and peace yesterday's news?
What is war anyway?
And where does it start - outside or inside?
In their play WAR OR PEACE, two actresses and a 100-year-old teddy bear go against the tide of the times: it must be possible, peace! With wild playfulness, razor-sharp curiosity and lots of clever books in their luggage, they take the audience on a journey deep into the past, present and future.
At NATO headquarters, they explore the secrets of cognitive warfare and provide an insight into the abysses of modern, AI-based drone warfare. With thick cigars, Clausewitz and a host of important historians, the three heroes discuss the timeless nature of war, before reporting - from the trenches of the First World War - on everyday life and the inner experience at the front. And then suddenly there it is, the possibility of a miracle.
Based on extensive research, the two theater makers Magdalena Scharler and Jenny Helene Wübbe have developed a play that raises awareness of the fact that war is more than an abstract experience and peace more than a "nice to have". It is a well-founded piece of enlightenment, a passionate plea for peace and the ability of every human being to shape it. In order to get into conversation with each other (again), the two artists invite the audience to a discussion after the performance.
