Working Together for the Dry Grasslands: During the volunteer workday at the “Trockenhänge am Petersberg” nature reserve, we’ll be trimming broom and gathering the clippings. This helps preserve valuable habitats for rare plants and animals. Every helping hand is welcome! Please register in advance.

The Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Foundation for Environmental Protection and Nature Conservation invites volunteers to participate in this year’s work project in the “Trockenhänge am Petersberg” nature reserve.

The dry and nutrient-poor grasslands there are valuable habitats for numerous rare plant and animal species. To ensure that these special open-land habitats are preserved, they are grazed by sheep. In addition, the emerging broom must be regularly cut back mechanically to prevent it from overgrowing the areas.

During the joint work event, the broom will therefore be cut back using loppers and brush cutters. The clippings will then be gathered up. Thanks to the support of many volunteers, the dry grasslands have already thrived in recent years. Now we look forward to seeing both familiar and new faces who would like to lend a hand with us.

Sturdy footwear and work gloves are recommended. If you have them, please bring ear protection and safety goggles. The foundation will provide large pruning shears. A light lunch will be provided.
