Sound artist Gabriele Hasler presents her new album. The basic concept is very simple: a piano that had been left to its own devices for 18 years was explored for its unique sounds and recorded. The album also features spoken texts and recordings made on a freshly tuned grand piano.

stimmungslagen” is the title of the new solo album by composer, pianist, and singer Gabriele Hasler. The basic idea is very simple: A piano that has been left to its own devices for 18 years
— an instrument that is actually “broken” — is explored for its unique sounds
and recorded. These piano recordings—freely improvised, recorded raw—were
played back to her through headphones during the grand piano and vocal recordings, sometimes looped live.
In this way, the temporally separate layers coalesce into a dense sonic structure. The tuned grand piano responds, complements, contradicts. The voice searches, whispers, hisses.
Curiosity as an attitude, as an aesthetic principle, as a productive force.

This artist’s book brings together texts and photographs from recent years. It is a document about finding a home and a termination of tenancy for personal use, about privileged homelessness and paralyzing bureaucracy. Hasler’s tone is laconic, her humor dry, her grief genuine.
Bio
Sound artist and author Gabriele Hasler has been active in the field of contemporary music since the early 1980s and has toured worldwide for the Goethe-Institut, among others. She has received numerous
awards and composition commissions, including for choirs and music theater. Three of her productions received
the German Record Critics’ Award. In 1986, she founded her own label, Foolish Music,
and since 2016, she has been releasing music on the Bremen-based label LAIKA Records.
