Cabaret is dead! Long live cabaret! Seriously?!? German cabaret has been around for 125 years? What makes cabaret—so often declared dead—so resilient? This “cheerful child of an eleventh muse, conceived in casual liaisons with the theater, variety shows, and the political podium,” as Friedrich Hollaender described it. Erfurt-based “Arche” cabaret artist Ulf Annel traces the path from the “Überbrettl” to today’s world of humor and satire in a brief, colorful, and amusing way. At the piano: Mr. Speedfinger.
