On October 8, 2026, at 7:00 p.m., the Literature Circle invites you to the Stralsund City Library for a book discussion of “Childhood” by Tove Ditlevsen. Admission is free.
To mark the 50th anniversary of Tove Ditlevsen’s (1917–1976) death, the Stralsund Literature Circle will read “Childhood,” the first volume of her Copenhagen Trilogy—a work that was rediscovered worldwide decades after her death and named one of the ten best books of 2021 by The New York Times. Following the reading, the Stralsund Literary Circle and the Stralsund City Library invite you to a book discussion on October 8, 2026, at the City Library.
Copenhagen, the 1920s: Little Tove grows up in the working-class neighborhood of Vesterbro—amidst poverty, a distant mother, and a secret poetry album in which she cherishes her dream of becoming a poet. A concise, poetic, and unflinching book about childhood and one’s roots—and about writing as a path forward.
Tip: The book is available at the Stralsund City Library as a printed book and as an audio CD.
The Literature Circle will meet on October 8, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the event room of the Stralsund City Library. Admission is free; registration is not required.
