"Living together democratically in Güstrow"
On Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 7 p.m., a public Thursday debate will once again take place at Güstrow Town Hall. The event is aimed at all interested citizens and is dedicated to the question of how security and order can be strengthened through joint interaction between the police, urban society and citizens.
The panel will include Lothar Fetzer (Güstrow Police Headquarters), Anne-Kathrein Kaiser (Weißer Ring), Rita Bley (criminologist), Sascha Zimmermann (Mayor of the Barlachstadt Güstrow) and students under the moderation of Dr. Stefan Metzger (Güstrow University of Applied Sciences). The composition of the panel allows for different perspectives on the topic - from police practice and municipal responsibility to victim support and the views of young people.
In the first part of the event, the panel will discuss key issues relating to safety, prevention, trust and mutual respect in Güstrow. In the subsequent second part, the audience is expressly invited to actively participate, ask questions and contribute their own experiences and suggestions to the discussion.
Safety is a central basic need and an essential prerequisite for functioning social coexistence. The Thursday debate is intended to help strengthen mutual understanding and look together for solutions on how to promote security and order on the ground in the long term.
The event is part of the nationwide action program for the birthday of the Basic Law on 23.05.
