Reading concert featuring the graphic novel based on H. G. Wells, with Thilo Krapp and music by Jörg Walter (concert harmonium)
At the end of the 19th century, a man builds a machine with which he intends to travel through time. His friends don’t believe him, but he eventually sets out to undo an event in his past. When the journey succeeds and he realizes that the past cannot be changed, he travels to the future, where he encounters a dystopian world in which two entirely different social groups—the Eloi and the Morlocks—coexist. While the peace-loving Eloi live on the surface, the Morlocks, who dwell underground, hunt the Eloi. The time traveler is faced with the question of whether the future is not much more similar to the past than he would have thought.
Thilo Krapp was born in North Rhine-Westphalia and studied communication design in Wuppertal, specializing in illustration. He now lives in Berlin. He is particularly interested in the 19th century with all its events and styles. This led, among other things, to his graphic novel adaptations of the literary classics *The War of the Worlds* by H.G. Wells and *20,000 Leagues Under the Sea* by Jules Verne. For “The War of the Worlds,” he received the 2017 Rudolf Dirks Award for best literary adaptation.
