Hans (Ulrich Tukur) is a school principal nearing retirement. But as his retirement draws ever closer, instead of feeling joy, he and his wife Rita (Anke Engelke) feel nothing but sheer fear. After 35 years of marriage, they face the challenge of coming to terms with their once-passionate but now stagnant relationship. Their son left home long ago, so Hans and Rita are now truly alone together all the time. Rita, in particular, is having a hard time adjusting to this change. Then a tragic accident occurs, which changes everything and casts a shadow over their future...
