Film Screening: The Glory of Life
The screenplay by Georg Maas and Michael Gutmann is based on the 2011 novel of the same name by Michael Kumpfmüller.
The film focuses on the final year of 40-year-old Franz Kafka’s life, during which he meets Dora Diamant, a woman of Polish origin, in Graal-Müritz in the summer of 1923. While Kafka wears a suit and tie even in the height of summer, he watches Dora Diamant dancing on the beach. The two meet again and again, strike up a conversation, and fall in love. She works at a Jewish community center. Since Berlin is Kafka’s dream city, he follows her there, where the two live together. Kafka’s health steadily deteriorates. Dora cares for him until his death.
