Günter Grass dissects five decades of German history in his novel of the century, reconstructing a lost world and at the same time pointing out its path into the abyss with an almost infinite love of storytelling, baroque linguistic power, caustic wit and unparalleled descriptive fury. The Tin Drum has been adapted for the stage numerous times. However, no one has come up with the most obvious idea of "drumming up" the novel. Until now! Because now percussionist Stefan Weinzierl has taken up the cause and turned the novel into a spectacle for voice and percussion. With the multi-faceted timbres of vibraphone, marimba, percussion and live electronics, Grass' novel can once again be discovered in a completely new way. In actor Devid Striesow, he has found a congenial counterpart as narrator. Together they create an intense text-music experience whose message is more relevant than ever.
Devid Striesow and Stefan Weinzierl combine the expressive power of the novel's text with the timbres of percussion, marimba and live electronics. Language and music tell the story of Oskar Matzerath's life, who stops growing at the age of three and experiences the world from what appears to be a child's perspective, from his birth in 1924 to the end of the Second World War. A unique, intense text-music experience, the message of which has become highly topical again in times of increasing nationalism and populism.
The idea of turning Günter Grass' "The Tin Drum" into a reading with percussion music is obvious and yet unique: individual scenes, read by actor Devid Striesow, are accompanied by percussionist Stefan Weinzierl with the multifaceted timbres of percussion and live electronics, and the instruments are also given their place as soloists time and again. Language and music tell the story of Oskar Matzerath, from his birth in Gdansk in 1924 to the end of the Second World War - with a message that has once again become highly topical in times of increasing nationalism and populism.
Devid Striesow is one of Germany's most popular and successful actors. With his extremely versatile and versatile performance, he can be seen in numerous film and television productions as well as in major theater productions.
With the unique sound spectrum of his multi-faceted percussion instruments, percussionist and sound artist Stefan Weinzierl develops aural worlds for energetic stage productions and makes guest appearances at renowned concert series, theaters and festivals.
