THE PARADISE
FELIX MEYER & project île
Felix Meyer & project île return with impressive lyrical and melodic power with "Paradies", their seventh studio album. Those who know Felix Meyer from his previous albums will hear no surprises in the best sense of the word, but this time, too, there are a few completely new colors on the palette. The now fifty-year-old singer-songwriter places a few punchlines in his very catchy new songs as if by magic. The music remains as danceable as ever.
The forthcoming album convinces with excellent acoustic treasures. It is this tried and tested "music for adults", which is characterized above all by the extremely dense, thoughtful and atmospheric work on words that gives Meyer a place somewhere in the wide field between Tom Waits and Jacques Brel, between Klaus Hoffmann and Sven Regener's "Element Of Crime" as well as his friends and colleagues Dota Kehr, Alin Coen, Jan Plewka, Norbert Leisegang or Sarah Lesch, with whom he regularly shares the stage.
The songs are stylistically diverse, at times rhythmic and bulky, original and opulent, tender and powerful. The melodies are fed by Meyer's laconic, distinctive baritone voice, which is paired with banjo, guitar, broom, bass and accordion, only to be refined from time to time with strings, flugelhorn and French horns to create an opulent soundscape.
He tells stories from everyday life, he observes precisely and always tells them honestly and at eye level. The trained documentary photographer manages with impressive ease to put the images that he takes from the world around him like a flaneur into writing in a wonderful way and to provide them with a suitable, almost symbiotic melodic framework.
Great, German-language ear cinema, which nevertheless ends far too quickly after the many new pieces, but has a much longer lasting effect!
