The movie 'Der Held vom Bahnhof Friedrichstraße' tells the story of Berlin video store owner Micha Hartung (Charly Hübner), who is on the verge of bankruptcy and inadvertently becomes an all-German hero. When a journalist stylizes him as the mastermind behind the largest mass exodus in the GDR on the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Wall, his life is suddenly turned upside down. As an impostor against his will, Micha becomes entangled in a tangle of half-truths and outright lies. And when the fragile house of cards of history threatens to collapse around him and his life really sinks into chaos, he meets Paula (Christiane Paul). Micha would never have thought it possible that a successful, clever and witty woman like her could be interested in a man like him. But the budding love story is overshadowed by the lie...

On December 12, 2024, director Wolfgang Becker passed away shortly after the end of the shooting of 'Der Held vom Bahnhof Friedrichstraße' (2025). 'X Verleih' honors the successful director, who wrote German film history with 'Good Bye, Lenin!', who wrote German film history, exactly one year after his death with the theatrical release of his last film, which his artistic companions, director Achim von Borries and producer Stefan Arndt, completed in Becker's spirit. The film will be released in German cinemas on December 11, 2025. Constantin Lieb ('Asphaltgorillas', 'Fabian', 'German Genius') co-wrote the screenplay for the adaptation of Maxim Leo's novel of the same name with Becker. Some of the illustrious cast members have previously appeared in films by Becker, others have not yet worked with him:Charly Hübner, Christiane Paul, Leon Ullrich, Leonie Benesch, Thorsten Merten, Peter Kurth, Daniel Brühl, Jürgen Vogel, Dirk Martens, Eva Löbau, Jörn Hentschel,Leslie Malton, Lilli Fichtner, Claudia Eisinger, Bernhard Schütz, Katarina Witt, Annabelle Mandeng, Adisat Semenitsch and Holger Handtke can be seen in 'Der Held vom Bahnhof Friedrichstraße'. A heartwarming tragicomedy about history as a myth, the pitfalls of German remembrance culture and life as a game of remembering, forgetting and inventing. An amusing lesson about the hierarchy of historiography and a film about the power of storytelling.
