Guided Tour with Thomas Struwe
Just a few minutes by bike from Stralsund lies a hidden gem of our countryside: the Försterhofer Heide. For a long time, this former military training area lay in a deep slumber, gradually becoming overgrown. While there was no forest at all in this approximately 80-hectare area in 1950, more than half of it has now become forest.
No more forest is to be allowed to grow here.
The goal today is to transform former pine forests, stands of invasive black cherry trees, and adjacent farm fields into near-natural forest.
