NEW ROMANTICISM RELOADED—What happens within a person when they encounter infinity?
Held at the late-Classical Rossin manor house, the exhibition unfolds a compelling dialogue between historical architecture and contemporary painting. Artist Karen Kieback’s works take up central themes of Romanticism—longing, introspection, and a connection to nature—and transpose them into the present.
Karen Kieback’s paintings arise from an immediate creative impulse, not from preconceived concepts. Using an experimental wet-on-wet technique, oil and acrylic paints, fragments of text, and found objects merge to create multi-layered visual worlds. The result is spaces full of movement and emotional depth, in which inner tensions become visible. The works tell of processes of transformation, of conflict and new beginnings, all the way to moments of self-empowerment.
“New Romanticism Reloaded” understands Romanticism not as a nostalgic look back, but as a timeless human attitude toward the world. The great questions of Romanticism remain relevant to this day: the search for meaning, connection, and the sublime—for a reality beyond what is immediately visible. In the historic manor house, past and present, architecture and painting, memory and transformation converge.
The rooms of the house become stations on an inner journey whose destination is not a distant place, but a return to oneself.
