In a small Dutch community near the city of Utrecht, life is quite tranquil. Here in Huisum, the village judge Adam regularly has to rule on the small and even smaller matters of his fellow villagers. The court case scheduled for today is about a broken jug. It looks like a quick trial. If it weren't for the court councillor Walter breathing down your neck and demanding a proper hearing. A settlement could be sought, for example. But the opposing parties, the widow Marthe Rull and the defendant fiancé of her daughter Eve, are unyielding. The culprit, the jug-breaker, must be found. Eve was present when the jug was broken and remains silent. And the culprit is also well known to Judge Adam. In other words: this jug has it all.
