For over 50 years, the Stiftung Buchkunst (Book Art Foundation) has been promoting the exemplary design of consumer books and providing them with a much-noticed forum through the competition "Die Schönsten Deutschen Bücher" (The Most Beautiful German Books). The results of these design competitions set points of reference and follow new developments. They serve as impulses for outstanding design and exemplary workmanship. There are five winners in each of the five categories "General literature", "Academic books, specialist books, school and textbooks", "Guidebooks, non-fiction books", "Art books, photo books, exhibition catalogs" and "Children's books, books for young people".
