Lecture on the architectural history of Schwerin and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern
The next lecture in the Forum.STADT.Geschichte lecture series of the Schwerin Historical Society will take place on September 24, 2025 at 7 pm in the Schleswig-Holstein-Haus.
The work of architect Franz Schiemer (1892-1953) has remained largely unknown to this day, although his involvement in more than 50 buildings and projects throughout Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is currently known. The speaker will present some of his works in his lecture and thus bring them into the public eye.
His work ranges from his professional beginnings in Stralsund in 1919 to his last works in Schwerin. Here, in the 1950s, he created the domicile of today's Ministry of Agriculture on Paulshöhe and that of the Ministry of Economics on Ostorfer Berg. His involvement in well-known Schwerin buildings, such as the crematorium in the Old Cemetery or the Bauhaus-style residential building in Güstrow Straße, will be examined in more detail in the lecture.
Admission is 2.00 euros, members of the association have free admission. Seats cannot be reserved.
