Picnic blanket or shroud? The album title “Ins Gras” evokes all sorts of different, even contradictory associations—and without exception, they’re all correct. Berlin-based singer-songwriter Sven van Thom, now based in Hesse, has recorded his most thematically complex and musically diverse album to date, with which he pursues an unusual goal: “In an age of self-optimization, the perfect smile on social media, and the pursuit of eternal youth and beauty, I want to advocate for the unconditional acceptance of failure.”
