Fern is a nomad. She travels from job to job in her van, always chasing work. That’s all she owns since her husband died and the gypsum mine closed. Harvesting, cleaning, cooking—Fern does whatever work she can find. She gets to know the community of working nomads, makes friends, and sometimes even finds more than that. And she realizes how the world of the settled is gradually becoming foreign to her.
Featuring a magnificent lead actress surrounded by an ensemble of non-professional actors, this multi-award-winning film (three Oscars!) captures the social reality of the United States with astonishing accuracy, while remaining powerful and poetic.
