The Classical Music Open-Air Concert in the Castle Park

Garden of Gamehl Castle, August 30, 2026, 6:00 p.m.
In case of inclement weather, the concert will take place in the ballroom. Due to limited space,
only open to those who have booked a meal in advance.
Program
The program has been deliberately designed to be varied: In the first half,
the string quartet will present an entertaining medley ranging from operetta and Disney
tunes all the way to Italo-pop with a classical twist: A light, summery
musical style characterizes this part of the evening.
After the intermission, following a work by the Mecklenburg composer Matthias
Sperger, Edvard Grieg’s String Quartet: It is a central work of
Romantic chamber music, combining a Nordic sound with song-like
warmth and a dense structure.
The evening is aimed equally at a classical-oriented audience and a general open-air
audience, combining entertainment with musical substance.
Thomas Probst, violin, has Swiss-Bavarian roots. After stints at the
Bavarian State Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and the Staatsoper Unter den Linden
Berlin, he has served as associate concertmaster of the second violins of the Mecklenburg
State Orchestra. The sought-after chamber musician is a member of the Demmler Quartet, whose CD
“Mecklenburg – 450 Years of Chamber Music” received extremely positive reviews, and he served as
Artistic Director of the Wismar Town Hall Concerts from 2016 to 2020, where he and the Hanseatic
Piano Trio—in addition to the classics—he repeatedly performed rarities from the repertoire
, particularly works by Mecklenburg composers. Guest performances have taken him throughout
many European countries, to Russia (where he performed as a soloist with the St. Petersburg State Orchestra
) and to India.
