Lecture by Sarah Geschlecht: "Stralsund in 'Neon' light - work technology and history of architectural designs with high-voltage fluorescent tubes in the GDR"

Ms. Geschlecht works as a qualified restorer of wall paintings and architectural surfaces in Stralsund and the surrounding area. She is particularly interested in the more recent architectural heritage of the GDR. Her recently completed dissertation at the Technical University of Munich dealt with architectural designs in the GDR using high-voltage fluorescent tubes, colloquially known as "neon signs". In her lecture, she would like to share her knowledge of the artistically and technically demanding work technique as well as the exciting history of these colorful lettering and pictorial signs in urban spaces. Using selected examples, both existing and long-lost, in the Stralsund city area, this journey through time is also intended to raise awareness of the current challenges of monument conservation in dealing with this group of objects.

Admission is free for members of the History Society (guests €7.50). Prior registration with the VHS Stralsund is recommended for capacity reasons.
