With the simple, regular design of the promenade—featuring architecturally styled spaces that cater to various recreational needs and are connected by an avenue of linden trees—Horticultural Inspector Hans Winter (1895–1969) in 1926–27 a work of garden art that draws inspiration from the beach promenade style of the major seaside resorts, yet finds its distinctive character in its nature as an urban park. Here, nature, garden design, and architecture merge into a total work of art.
The Schillanlage—a gem of Stralsund’s garden culture—serves as a link in a magnificent landscape stretching between Knieperteich and the shore of the Sund. It was restored 20 years ago based on original plans from the 1920s and captivates visitors especially with its rich, seasonally changing display of flowers.
The historical garden walk leads from the Schill Monument through the Schill Park and along the Sund promenade to the beach.
