LEVELING WORK OF TIME
Based on the novel by Ina Rex
A musical-scenic reading
The author Ina Rex was born in Klein Zicker on the island of Rügen in 1845. After marrying a Rostock merchant, she left the Mönchgut peninsula and lived in Rostock until her death on January 19, 1910.
In the novel "Nivellierarbeit der Zeit" ("The Leveling Work of Time"), she describes the life of the population of the remote Rügen peninsula of Mönchgut at the end of the 19th century with humor and remarkable eloquence.
Writing was considered unseemly for a middle-class woman in bourgeois circles at the time, which is why the author used the pseudonym Ina Rex for her publications. Throughout her life, she had to conceal her writing or at least justify it apologetically.
Now this unusual literary testimony is being presented in a reading in Rostock - a good 125 years after Ina Rex's death - which would certainly have delighted the author.
