An international youth art project
For the second time, the Kunsthalle Rostock is inviting pupils from the Baltic Sea region to discover art as a means of expressing their own themes. Visitors to the exhibition space will experience how young people in the Baltic Sea region approach their own identity using artistic means of expression. This time, the focus will be on the following questions: Does the Baltic Sea youth actually exist? How does the sea on your doorstep shape the lives of young people in the Baltic Sea region? What unites young people from Rostock, Finland, Denmark, Sweden, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and Poland - and what do they experience very differently?
Together with project leader Bettina Renner, pupils taking part in the project will explore ways of dealing with their identity over the course of the school year and investigate the extent to which life on the Baltic Sea and in the Baltic Sea region shapes them. What understanding do they have of the Baltic Sea as a space for encounters and living together and how does this develop over the course of the project?
In the project, each school class creates artistic group works that can be discovered by museum visitors in the exhibition space. The young people are free to choose their own artistic means. The exhibition will also make transparent how a group arrived at its choice of artistic method - because that is exactly what the cooperative event is all about: the focus is on the process and discovery. The project would not be possible without the dedicated teachers from all the participating schools. Our thanks go to them.
Parallel to the exhibition opening, a weekend of encounters will take place from 10.10. - 12.10.2025, where groups of all participating school classes are invited to the Kunsthalle Rostock to get to know each other and deepen their encounters in joint workshops.
