A theatrical chanson evening about Romy Schneider I With Jakob Gühring
“Romy, la mer et la musique” explores the legend of Romy Schneider, the South, and the Mediterranean region through music and theater. The interplay of texts about Romy Schneider and musical interpretations of French and Italian chansons creates a delicate spatial composition.
The evening explores the many facets of Romy Schneider—ranging from glamour to tragedy, from longing to idealization, and from artistic excellence to profound suffering. While the Mediterranean region is seen as a living dream of culture and beauty, Romy Schneider embodies the human pursuit of success and the pain of fame. The chansons of the 20th century tie in precisely with these contradictions and intersections, uniting these major themes through musical expression.
Jakob Gühring (Photo: Jeanne Degraa) previously appeared in the TOG production “Als ich fortging” and will take on the musical direction of the summer spectacle “Glorious” at the Schauspielhaus Neubrandenburg in 2026. In his program “Romy, la mer et la musique,” he performs multilingual and musically virtuosic interpretations of chansons by Yves Montand, Nino Ferrer, Paolo Conte, Georges Brassens, and many others on piano, guitar, and accordion—just as he has already done to great acclaim with his first acting-and-music project, “L’homme et la musique,” before enthusiastic audiences from Vienna to Hamburg and from Bolzano to Cologne.
