A comedy by Laura Naumann
Mia has acquired an AI-generated doppelgänger—Maia. As a friend, she’s supposed to help Mia cope with loneliness and a lack of prospects. But right now, on the day of Mia’s grandmother’s funeral, Maia is unreachable. The chatbot friend was supposed to be dealing with the strained family dynamics in Mia’s place today, while Mia herself is holed up in the car outside. When Maia suddenly shows up after all, she takes on the role of the perfect, understanding daughter in front of Mia’s parents. Mia is stunned, because all of a sudden, Maia is no longer just competing with her outwardly for a place in the family.
Laura Naumann’s enigmatic comedy *Die-Geister-die-ich-rief* plays with forms of communication—ones we’ve been using for a long time but still don’t fully understand—in a zany and insightful way.
