We would vote for Renate!
Renate Bergmann takes off: out of Berlin, into the supposed peace and quiet of the Brandenburg countryside in Spreeweide. Where Stefan, Ariane and the children live and Renate's retirement home is waiting for her. She has to mop up the place anyway, because it doesn't get clean on its own. But wherever Renate is, it's rarely quiet!
As soon as she arrives, she clashes with Mayor Brummer. "Why don't you run for office yourself?" she doesn't need to be told twice. 82 years or not, the Adenauer, the Americans and Renate Bergmann really get going at this age. So it doesn't take long before Renate's election poster is hanging on every village lamppost. Without a diamond, but with a smart blazer. After all, you vote with your eyes!
From now on, Renate will be a voter at the charity run, the inauguration of the carousel at the "Wurzelzwerge" daycare center and the competition for the most beautiful balcony box in Spreescheid, smiling in the front row when local reporter Trutsch shoots his pictures. Who knows better about overpriced cemetery fees, high entrance fees to the swimming pool, dingy park benches or where the bus timetable is repeatedly graffitied by the "Raudies"? Before you know it, Renate is right in the middle of the election campaign, without a company car or bodyguard, but with the Koyota, Gertrud, Kurt and Ilse.
Mayor Brummer can dress warmly!
Renate Bergmann
"Germany's best-known Twitter granny" (photo) has sugar and "ossiporosis", sleeps under an electric blanket and "didn't survive the war to eat artificial meat made from soy": Renate Bergmann, 82, from Berlin, is a fictional character created by author Torsten Rohde. The first book "Ich bin nicht süß, ich hab bloß Zucker" (I'm not sweet, I just have sugar) was published in 2014 and has since been followed by over twenty other equally successful books with a total print run of over three million.
