Introduction: Andrea Hildebrandt I Visual artist I Art historian I Director of the gallery
In his current exhibition at the Galerie im Kloster, Leipzig-based artist Adrian Mudder (* 1986 in Delmenhorst) is showing almost exclusively works of nocturnal scenes.
Adrian Mudder often develops his motifs from everyday observations. The basis for his paintings on canvas are sketches from a classic sketchbook and smartphone drawings, which the artist makes on the go and transforms into small and large-format works in oil on canvas in his studio using his very own formal language. The artist often uses blurring and contrasts the dark tones of the night with bright, vibrant colors.
For Adrian Mudder, reflection on life and his own attitude to life is closely linked to his artistic work. The works in the "almost at night" exhibition reflect inner states, as well as the profound upheavals in social structures and the complex challenges associated with today's digital society.
Adrian Mudder often creates quiet scenes on canvas that convey a special mood that touches us. However, they usually also contain the moment of movement - in the form of spotlights, flickering, areas of color that represent wind or rain, snow. And despite the sometimes melancholy-looking scenes, which sometimes seem to have a certain desolation or sense of longing, there are also whimsical moments in Adrian Mudder's "night pictures" that make us smile a little.
