with Dr. Wolf Schmidt, “The Other Mecklenburg-Vorpommern”
The Heinrich Schliemann Memorial in Neubukow and the Mecklenburg Foundation jointly invite you to a reading with Dr. Wolf Schmidt. The Warin native will read from his two-volume work on “The Other Mecklenburg-Vorpommern” at 3:00 p.m.
Wolf Schmidt’s “Enthüllungsgeschichten” (Revelatory Stories), newly published this year, is the sequel to his 2024 work “Wegweiser” (Guide), in which the author first took readers on a tongue-in-cheek tour of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Both volumes spark an interest in regional culture and are characterized by cheeky questions, ironic detachment, and witty chains of association. From the art of greeting in MV to the state coat of arms, Low German, “Missingsch,” and time expressions, all the way to the divine heritage in everyday life, witchcraft, “Püstern,” and alcohol-related rituals—the range of topics covered in each of the approximately eight- to ten-page chapters is wide—all presented in polished language and told with wit. Prominent figures, from Zeppelin to Schliemann to Loriot, are also given their due.
Weather permitting, the event will take place outdoors.
Light refreshments, including coffee and cake, will be provided.
Admission is free.
