Lecture evening
In cooperation with the State capital Schwerin, the Mecklenburg-Schwerin Foundation presents the latest results of a research project on the fate of French prisoners of war in Schwerin. Dr. Jakob Schwichtenberg and Dr. Florian Ostrop will give a joint presentation.
Individual biographies of the approximately 1,400 men who were brought to Schwerin as prisoners of war in 1870 and whose names have been largely preserved in original historical documents will be discussed. The research was carried out with the support of many French communities. In addition, the speakers will report on the activities of the association Le Souvenir Français to restore the memorial to the French who died in Schwerin at the Old Cemetery and will also take a look
at the situation in other towns in the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, such as Wismar, Ludwigslust, Rostock and Parchim. Afterwards, there will be an opportunity for personal discussions over drinks.
