Paper Crown are back after their acclaimed February tour—and making their first appearance in Stralsund. The Norwegian duo delivers intense and moving indie pop-rock. They’re bringing their new album, “Letters”—an ambitious and playful record on which Johanne Kippersund and Ørnulv Snortheim showcase their self-confidence and knack for gripping melodies.
Johanne Kippersund is one of Norway’s most exciting rock singers and songwriters today. With her main art-rock band, MEER, she wows fans year after year at select rock and prog-rock festivals. Alongside her longtime musical partner Ørnulv Snortheim, she fully embraces her softer, nostalgic-rock side with Paper Crown. And now she does so with her third full-length album, following *Dreamers* (2021) and *Half Bad* (2023).
“Letters” is the result of a long, creative journey that guitarist, producer, and songwriter Ørnulv Snortheim has undertaken in close collaboration with Johanne Kippersund. The album was recorded and produced at Snortheim’s own Dakkota Studio in Hamar, Norway.
Musically, “Letters” draws inspiration from the organic warmth of 1970s recordings—with expansive arrangements and a lively, breathing instrumentation. At the same time, the album pays homage to the alternative pop-rock of the 1990s, with strong melodies, distinctive guitar lines, raw energy, and a spirit of discovery. The result is a sound that feels both nostalgic and contemporary, making “Letters” the duo’s most impressive release to date.
