Day of Action to Protect Orangutans.
International Orangutan Day is celebrated annually on August 19. This day of action was established to raise global awareness of the threats facing these great apes and the destruction of their natural habitat on Borneo and Sumatra.
The Rostock Zoo is participating in this campaign with the kind support of Orang-Utans in Not e.V. From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the information booth in front of the Darwineum’s movie theater, you’ll learn in a vivid and engaging way why orangutans’ habitats are threatened and how everyone can contribute to greater sustainability—and thus to the protection of these animals—through small actions in their daily lives.
At 4:00 p.m., there will be a presentation by Sebastian Schorr, president of Orang-Utans in Not e.V. and an animal keeper at the Leipzig Zoo. He will provide a fascinating insight into the projects supported by the organization.
