well-founded and entertaining, sophisticated and amusing - with Richard Vardigans at the piano
At Oper mal anders, guests experience the masterpieces of opera literature virtually "naked" - without singers, orchestra and stage design. You laugh, you cry and, above all, you understand not only the sometimes hair-raising plots, but also the hidden musical connections. Richard Vardigans presents all this with profound knowledge, pianistic virtuosity and his unmistakable English humor - a one-man show in a class of its own.
Born in England, he studied piano, violin and flute in London and Birmingham. He then studied conducting as a DAAD scholarship holder at the Berlin University of the Arts and at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, where he was a master student of Franco Ferrara. He has been active as a pianist, conductor and lecturer for over 35 years - most recently as General Music Director of the Erzgebirgische Theater und Orchester GmbH. In addition to CD and studio recordings (including for the BBC and Dutch Radio), he has been giving concert and opera introductions in various languages for many years, focusing on proximity to the audience. He is now a much sought-after guest throughout Germany with his "Opera with a difference" series.
"The Magic Flute" by Wolfgang A. Mozart (1756 - 1791)
At the beginning, the Queen of the Night arouses our pity, as she has been robbed of her only child. Only much later does she seem less sympathetic, when we realize how power-hungry this woman really is. Richard Vardigans takes us into a world where love and human dignity triumph over the evil forces of the night...
