Start of the new series at the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Library - with three well-known jazz artists as surprise musical guests
As part of the Schwerin Jazz Night, the state library is launching the new series "Opened - prominent voices and their books" for the first time. Each event focuses on a public figure from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern who has the honor of adding book recommendations to the new acquisitions shelf and presenting them in conversation with library director Matthias Wehry. The books discussed can then be browsed through, read and borrowed.
Marianne Wöhrle-Braun's selection reflects her passion for jazz: almost 30 books, new publications and new acquisitions are available as material for discussion, curiosity and a passion for jazz. The talk will be followed by a small drink with the opportunity to browse through the books together and talk shop about jazz and culture. Three well-known jazz artists will provide musical accompaniment for the evening as surprise guests.
The event is free of charge. Registration is not necessary. Seating is limited.
The Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Günther Uecker State Library dates back to the Ducal Government Library founded in 1779 and, as a critical infrastructure, holds important historical collections as well as a large collection of works from and about Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. The state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has legally tasked the state library in Schwerin with collecting, cataloging and archiving the state's current printed works for the future. According to the state law and ordinance on the delivery of printed works, all printed products published in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern must be delivered to the state library free of charge within one month of publication. Titles about Mecklenburg-Vorpommern that are published outside the state are acquired by the State Library. The State Library is a department of the State Office for Culture and Monument Preservation. The old building at its location on Johannes-Stelling-Straße is now part of Schwerin's UNESCO World Heritage ensemble.
