26th Neubrandenburg Summer Film Festival, July 31, 2026 – August 9, 2026
The backdrop for this small-scale tragicomedy is the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, for which a young woman from the provinces travels to the big city.
France 2025, Director: Valentine Cadia, Running time: 77 minutes
Starring: Blandine Mache, Indio Hair, Arcadi Radeff, and others
Thirty-year-old Blandine has come to Paris for the Games. She wants to attend the swimming competitions and also visit her half-sister Julie, whom she hasn’t seen in ten years. Julie, with whom Blandine is staying on the couch, is happy to see her but is quite stressed out because of her recent breakup with her husband Paul. Nothing else is really going according to plan either.
Through her heroine, who meanders through the metropolis, Valentine Cadia also showcases the city’s neighborhoods beyond the spruced-up downtown area. Although a glimpse of Olympic glamour can be caught there via public viewings, Blandine can only admire her crush, the swimmer Castaldella, on her smartphone. In a way, the film aims to be a counterpoint to the massive tourist event—but first and foremost, it’s a portrait of an outsider who radiates a quiet and natural serenity during her solitary wanderings through Paris.
We’ll be welcoming our guests starting at 8:30 p.m. with the (free) Cinema Royale summer drink. Delicious grilled bratwursts will be on the menu.
