Swedish summer finale
with Niklas Sivelöv (piano)
Wilhelm Stenhammar: Late Summer Nights op. 33
Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano works
Johannes Brahms: Piano works
and more
Summer, sun, light and night play a major role in Swedish music. The "Late Summer Nights" by Wilhelm Stenhammar are close to the robust and melancholically brooding world of Johannes Brahms.
The pianist and composer Niklas Sivelöv, born in Skellefteå in northern Sweden and now a professor at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, is one of the most prominent ambassadors of Swedish music in Europe. His Stenhammar recordings - which have won numerous prizes - are regarded as a reference, and his concert activities have taken him from Carnegie Hall to the Leipzig Gewandhaus, alongside conductors such as Esa-Pekka Salonen and Alan Gilbert. For his services to music, he was knighted in the Order of Dannebrog by the Queen of Denmark.
