The Next Generation of Choreography
“I’m not interested in how people move, but in what moves them.”
Pina Bausch
NEW GROUND I marks the first edition of our evening dedicated to emerging choreographers and serves as a platform to support, promote, and showcase the next generation of choreographic talent. Conceived as a triple bill, NEW GROUND I brings together three distinct choreographic styles.
The first piece is being created as part of a jury award in collaboration with the Concours de Jeunes Choréographes de Ballet 2026 in Biarritz.
A second work is being commissioned in connection with the “Ballett Schwerin Prize” of the 40th International Choreography Competition in Hanover and is also being developed specifically for NEW GROUND I.
The third choreography is created by Julio Morel, a dancer with Ballett Schwerin, and brings an internal artistic perspective that strengthens the creative development process within the company.
The goal of NEW GROUND I is to offer young choreographers space, trust, and concrete support, enabling them to take artistic risks within a professional structure. We invite the audience to experience new perspectives, diverse movement languages, and the creative energy that shapes the future of dance.
