Truth Under Pressure | A play by Zino Wey | Music by Hanns Eisler, Mischa Spoliansky, Ruth Porita, and others. New texts by Thomas Köck
“Truth is the ground on which we stand and the sky that stretches above us.”
Hannah Arendt
Errata! explores our relationship with truth and information. Has truth always been a matter of personal perspective—or have we forgotten how to agree on a shared reality?
Director and set designer Zino Wey invites the audience into a space of thought and sound that explores the formation and spread of opinion, the struggle for truth, as well as well-intentioned white lies and poisonous falsehoods throughout the ages. Soloists and the opera chorus perform musical pieces that themselves embody a history of oppression and oblivion—songs, arias, and other works by ostracized composers. Playwright Thomas Köck complements this musical repertoire with new texts.
Between the lines of sheet music and newspaper pages, amid the clatter of old printing presses and the sounds of voices long silenced, a somewhat audacious search for clues gains momentum, addressing the big questions of our present—an era of fake news, post-factual discourse, and the illusion of perfectly reproducible realities. Those who print help decide what becomes true. Ambiguities are already factored into the equation.
An evening in search of a small piece of truth.
