The Renaissance-style moated castle of Mellenthin is a venerable castle complex dating back to 1575 and is located in the middle of the Usedom Island Nature Park. "Mellenthin" comes from the Slavic word for "center". The moated castle of Mellenthin is located right there, in the center of the Island of Usedom. The castle consists of a two-storey main building with two single-storey side wings that enclose the courtyard.
enclose the courtyard. Inside the castle, the elaborately designed entrance hall, whose ceiling is supported by a column, is impressive. The eye-catcher here is a magnificent fireplace with rich Renaissance decoration. In the 19th century, the Mellenthin estates were auctioned off and the owners changed frequently until the estate was dissolved in 1928. After 1945, the castle was used as a kindergarten, administrative offices and living quarters. In 2001, the Fidora family acquired the building and opened a hotel with a restaurant, café, coffee roastery, brewery and distillery. There is a lot to discover here.
