A Special Evening at the OZEANEUM to Mark the 100th Anniversary of the METEOR Expedition
To conclude the “75 Years of the German Maritime Museum” anniversary year, the German Maritime Museum and the Friends of the German Maritime Museum invite you to a Maritime Soirée in the “1:1 Giants of the Seas” exhibition hall at the OZEANEUM. Guests can look forward to an evening of science, historical film footage, and live music.
Program:
- Welcome address by Prof. Burkard Baschek, Director of the German Oceanographic Museum
- Scientific prologue with Prof. Dr. Martin Visbeck: “When the Deep Sea Became Measurable: How the 1925 METEOR Expedition Shaped Our Understanding of the South Atlantic”
- Historical silent film about the Atlantic voyage of the survey ship METEOR, accompanied by live music specially composed for the occasion by the Simon Quinn – Sprachlos Ensemble
- Remarks by Anica Rothbart-Nickel, Executive Director of the Friends of the German Maritime Museum Association
- Followed by a get-together in the foyer
