Family Concert with the Mecklenburg-Schwerin State Orchestra | Ages 7 and up
Program: “
” WUM and BUM and the Ladies DING DONG
By Gordon Kampe, based on the book of the same name by Brigitte Werner and Birte Müller
Do you know WUM and BUM, DING and DONG? The four quirky residents of the narrow house on the small street in the middle of the big city are making a lot of noise. Mr. WUM is constantly angry—WUMMS, and the next trash can goes flying. Mr. BUM marches day in and day out, accompanied by booming marching music. Ms. DING coaxes the most amazing sounds out of everything—even her pink frilly dress—and Ms. DONG loves to sing duets with her canary.
What does that sound like? CLANG! BANG! BOOM-FALLERA! Oh yeah, oh yeah, oh yeah. So-la-ti-do. And all over again. It comes as no surprise to anyone that this house is never quiet. Does that cause trouble? Well, what do you think?
Author Brigitte Werner created these four characters, and composer Gordon Kampe transformed their story into a colorful musical adventure—full of jingles, clatters, bangs, trills, and la-la-las. Together with the Mecklenburg State Orchestra, listeners young and old can not only discover how music is born from anger, joy, musing, and imagination, but also get right in on the action themselves through all kinds of interactive activities.
