Reading and discussion with Grit Poppe on Friday, April 24, 6 p.m. in the Demmler Hall of Schwerin Town Hall.
The Bündnis 90/Die Grünen/Die PARTEI parliamentary group invites you to a reading and discussion with the author and writer Grit Poppe on Friday, April 24, 6 p.m. in the Demmler Hall of Schwerin Town Hall. The author, who has already won several awards for her books, will read from her non-fiction book"verschleppt, verbannt, verschwunden - Deutsche Kriegsjugend in Stalins Lagern und Gefängnissen" ("Deported, banished, disappeared - German war youth in Stalin's camps and prisons"), which she published with Niklas Poppe. This will be followed by a moderated discussion about the background to the book.
Grit and Niklas Poppe report on the fates of young people and young adults who fell into the clutches of the Soviet secret service, were arrested, deported or murdered in the Soviet occupation zone and the early GDR after the Nazi era. These are the stories of suffering and imprisonment of those affected, who innocently and often had to spend years in one of the Soviet special camps and in the Gulag. Quite a few perished. The experiences of those unjustly imprisoned are portrayed in such a way that it becomes clear how seriously and persistently human dignity and human rights were violated. This volume is dedicated to the people who suffered persecution at a young age at the hands of the Soviet occupying power.
Admission to the event is free of charge. Advance registration is not required.
