New series of events at the Schwerin-Mueß open-air museum. Museum staff and members of Klöndör e.V. offer something special for visitors.
Starting in the 2026 season, Klöndör e.V.’s Museum Hands-On Day will take place for the first time at the Schwerin-Mueß Open-Air Museum.
The Klöndör e.V. museum association preserves and shares traditional craftsmanship, regional traditions, and everyday culture as intangible cultural heritage. “The Future Needs Its Roots” means using traditional knowledge to build an ecologically and socially sustainable future. Working closely with the Schwerin-Mueß Open-Air Museum, the association positions itself as a place of learning and experience where people can engage in analog, hands-on, and communal activities—as a conscious counterpoint to today’s digital, fast-paced world.
On the last Saturday of every month, Klöndör e.V. hosts a hands-on day at the Schwerin-Mueß Open-Air Museum. Starting at 2 p.m., association members spend the afternoon demonstrating what the association’s work entails. The afternoon’s activities vary each time: sometimes it’s spinning on a spinning wheel, other times washing clothes in a tub or mowing with a scythe. Members of the newly founded blacksmithing group stoke the forge and do some forging. Chatting in Platdüütsch is, of course, part of the fun, and anyone who hasn’t picked it up yet might just find lasting inspiration here.
All dates for the 2026 season: April 25, May 30, June 27, July 25, August 29, September 26, and October 31. The hands-on days always begin at 11 a.m. with a public museum tour led by museum staff.
With engaging events like the Museum Hands-On Day, the museum and Klöndör e.V. aim to provide lively and attractive experiences for museum visitors even during the current construction work at the Mueßer Museumsdorf.
Regular museum admission applies. There are no extra costs for the additional activities.
