Afrobeat
LAGOS THUGS is a ten-piece Afrobeat band from Lagos, Nigeria, founded in 2020 by Adetunji Adeyemi (aka “Big Thug”) and known for its explosive live performances. Rooted in the classic Afrobeat tradition, the band blends powerful horn arrangements, deep polyrhythms, and socially conscious themes with a modern twist. Their performances are immersive, groove-driven experiences centered on improvisation, connection with the audience, and collective energy.
LAGOS THUGS views each show as a communal experience rather than a mere concert. Their sets often evolve into long, exhilarating journeys in which groove, improvisation, and call-and-response directly connect the audience to the Afrobeat tradition. This philosophy has earned them a reputation as one of Nigeria’s most captivating contemporary Afrobeat live bands.
In 2026, the band will tour Africa and Europe, further cementing their place in the global Afrobeat and Afro-diaspora music movement. Their music addresses themes of power, injustice, freedom, and African identity, building on Afrobeat’s historical role as protest music and a means of collective expression.
With a strong foundation in live performances and a steadily growing international audience, LAGOS THUGS focus on cultural exchange and long-term worldwide tours. In 2026, the band will embark on an extensive tour of Africa and Europe to present authentic Afrobeat from its birthplace.
