Frankenstein and his monster are the myth of modernity, whose roots stretch all the way back to the fire-bringing Prometheus and whose dreams continue to resonate in the most modern technologies. At the heart of all these stories lies the human longing and hubris to overcome death. Viktor Frankenstein must painfully come to realize that this also means the downfall of humanity. He loses everything he loves.
The ECKIGEN’s attempt to understand Frankenstein’s creature in the here and now follows Mary Shelley’s original story but transposes it to the near future in a Vorpommern lagoon landscape. Franz Triebenecker’s production is accompanied by an experimental soundscape: Under the direction of Friederike Gawenda and Ana Bulović, the voices of the “Eckigen” give rise to a distinct musical language, enhanced by spatial sound design and live voice modulation. Inspired by this play and its music, Judith Tiedtke created the choreography.
