Klezmer music featuring Harry Timmermann (clarinet) and Serhiy Lukashov (accordion) presents festive and dance music in the Eastern European Jewish style. The melodies range from joyful and dance-like to melancholic and contemplative or tragic and expressive, and are always marked by a special intensity. Admission is free; donations are welcome.
Harry Timmermann, born near Güstrow and raised in Wuppertal, now lives in Brandenburg after spending 30 years in Berlin (West). There, he studied and taught German language and literature, worked as a lecturer, a radio writer, and a night watchman before discovering klezmer music, dusting off his clarinet, and founding the group Harry’s Freilach in 1992, with which he has since performed in various lineups, both privately and publicly.
Serhiy Lukashov, from Poltava (Ukraine), studied at the local conservatory and worked at the Poltava Philharmonic. He has lived in Berlin since 2007, plays international folk music, performs occasionally—for example, at the circus (www.lukashov-akkordeon.de)—and increasingly often with Harry’s Freilach.
