Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, and Marc-Aurel Floros
Conductor: Svetlomir
Zlatkov; Narration: Elke Heidenreich
Music penetrates our souls, makes the world more beautiful, makes people better — and happy. For the passionate music lover Elke Heidenreich, her love for this art—which begins where words end—also permeates her literary work.
Her third reading with music in Rostock focuses on Clara and Robert Schumann, arguably the most famous musical couple of the 19th century, and their mutual friend Johannes Brahms. Schumann, already in poor health, saw the young man from Hamburg as the one who would bring his ideas to fruition and hailed him as a musical messiah. Clara, who performed as a pianist throughout Europe and was largely responsible for supporting her large family on her own, found in Brahms an important friend, an artistic kindred spirit, and a supporter.
With subtlety and psychological insight, Elke Heidenreich explores the musical trio and brings their spirit to life, interwoven with selected music by Robert Schumann, Johannes Brahms, and Marc-Aurel Floros. Floros’ composition *Eismeer* explores Schumann’s mental state at the end of his life and receives its world premiere in the orchestral version.
