The 2026 German Nature Film Award is proud to present the winning entry in the "Wilderness—Nature" category
To kick off this year’s Winter Academy, the Visitor and Information Center of the Szczecin Lagoon Nature Park (Am Stettiner Haff) invites you to a special movie night on November 12, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. Thanks to a special collaboration between the German Nature Film Foundation and the National Natural Landscapes Foundation, we have succeeded in bringing an award-winning entry from this year’s Nature Film Prize to the region.
The winning film in the “Wilderness Nature” category, directed by Bernhard Rübe (Rübefilm), will be screened: “In the Age of Fire – Ash and Rebirth in Spain’s Forests.”
This impressive documentary takes a close look at Spain’s natural world before, during, and after the fire season. It fascinatingly demonstrates that wildfires are part of the cycle of renewal in naturally developed landscapes. While fire-resistant species such as Andalusian cork oaks or specialized heath shrubs benefit from the flames and regenerate from the ashes, niche feeders such as the critically endangered Pardelluchs face major challenges. At the same time, the film advocates for a shift toward sustainable forest management and highlights the contrast with vulnerable monocultures.
When: November 12, 2026, 6:00 p.m.
