The SED in Everyday Life in the GDR
Through large display panels, the exhibition takes visitors deep into the world of the SED: its rituals, training programs, regulations, and the mechanics of its power. It shows how the party functioned and how it permeated life in the GDR through ideology, control, and pressure to be loyal. At the same time, it reveals how the SED extended its influence into workplaces, schools, and residential areas—and how people sought their own paths amid conviction, conformity, and the constraints of daily life.
An exhibition by the Federal Foundation for the Reappraisal of the SED Dictatorship, curated by Stefan Wolle.
The exhibition is on view from November 2–20 at St. Spiritus (entrance at Lange Straße 49, 1st floor). The venue is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.; admission is free!
